Probably the cities of 南京 (Nánjīng), 江苏 (Jiāngsū) Province and the city of Gálvez, Province of Santa Fe be the only two cities in the world that are exact antipodal pairs. Between them there are important topographic and climatic coincidences. Both cities are separated one from the other by 20015 km through the Earth’s surface and 12742 km in a straight line crossing the centre of the Earth. There are no people in the world farther from each other than the inhabitants of Gálvez and 南京, excluding astronauts.

The city of Gálvez (32º2′ S, 61º13′ W)- a small city dedicated to agriculture and livestock – matches entirely with the modern downtown of 南京 (32º2′ N, 118º47’E). The results to be obtained by contacting people of both cities are unpredictable but certainly fantastic and inspiring.

One among several other coincidences of both cities is that the airfield of Gálvez, with its tracks and its hangar, is in the antipodes of the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. There is also an exact coincidence between the 877 school in Gálvez (a primary school for children of low economic resources) and the 中华 (Zhōnghuá) school in Nánjīng, as well as between the Simón de Iriondo school in Gálvez and the school nº1 in Nánjīng.

In Chinese, South (南) capital (京). One of the most important and ancient cities of China and one of its four ancient capitals. It was probably the biggest city in the world in the 13th and 14th centuries. Several times capital of China and during many centuries between 229 A.D. and 1949. Was also capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (太平天囯) in the 19th century.

Nánjīng has the world’s largest and best preserved city wall. It has more than eight million inhabitants and the largest number of university students in relation to population in China. It was the centre of the Tàipíng rebellion, the largest war in the 19th century and one of the bloodiest in the history of mankind with around 70 million deaths as well as place of the Nánjīng massacre in 1937.



City in Santa Fe province, founded in 1886 in lands owned by José Gálvez, governor of the province at that time. Formerly a settlement of italian immigrants without urban organization, called Colonia Margarita until the opening of the train station. It is 137 km. away from Rosario and 428 km. away from Buenos Aires. It has 19,000 inhabitants. Four hundred times less than 南京. It is located it the main area of milk production in Argentina. The Province of Santa Fe is one of the most developed areas of Argentina, in the region of biggest agricultural and livestock production, located by the Paraná river, one of the most important rivers of South America. Is the third province in economic importance of Argentina. Despite its short history and its reduced size, Gálvez has an active cultural life, several educative centers, important factories and has been the birthplace of renowned sportsmen and artists. It is the National Capital of Choral Singing.
